Bridging The Gap: Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing Within The Irish Sporting Sector
Earlier this year, on April 10th, TASC, the Think-tank for Action on Social Change, and Bohemian F.C. participated in a one-day ‘multiplier’ event bringing together sports clubs, local government representatives and climate action policymakers to discuss the topic: Activating the Sports Sector for Sustainability: Community Engagement and Resilience.
The event was organised by Ireland’s largest sporting organisation, the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), which was founded in 1884 and plays an influential role right across Irish society and in almost every town and village. During the morning session, Bohemian F.C. shared a presentation focused on the need for football clubs to become more involved in the fight for climate justice both locally and globally and spoke about several people-centred climate action projects underway at the club.
In the afternoon, TASC participated in a panel discussion which examined community participation and engagement. TASC spoke about the findings of the Football for Climate Justice Fan and Community Survey, which was published last November, and shared learnings which could be applied to other sports clubs and associations across Ireland. TASC also shared reflections on their work on community-led local development for climate justice which is underway across the island of Ireland.
The Football for Climate Justice project has gained the attention of several sports clubs and organisations across the island of Ireland.
