Bohemian FC’s Climate Cooperative Visit to the European Parliament

In a move to unite sports and sustainability, the Bohemian Climate Cooperative recently completed a visit to the European Parliament. Representing the ethos of Bohemian FC, a fan-owned football club, this cooperative is leveraging the beautiful game to tackle one of the most pressing global challenges: climate change. Their two-day trip marked a step in connecting grassroots initiatives with European policies for a sustainable future.

Bohemian FC has long been more than just a football club: it’s a community-driven institution. The goal of BCC is ambitious yet essential: to ensure that the transition to a green economy is equitable, inclusive, and beneficial to all. By creating local green jobs, offering training programs, and enhancing community wealth, the cooperative aims to support the community while addressing environmental and social challenges.

During their time at the European Parliament, the BCC delegation, comprising club members, volunteers, and community partners, held meetings with key European organisations and policymakers. With support from MEP Lynn Boylan, the delegation engaged with groups like the European Trade Union Confederation, Friends of the Earth Europe, and REScoop.eu. They also consulted with European Commission Directorates responsible for Energy and Regional Policy, ensuring that their model aligns with broader EU strategies.

A major focus of the BCC’s efforts is the creation of green jobs and apprenticeships, especially for young people in the community. Recognising the climate crisis as both a challenge and an opportunity, the cooperative is determined to ensure that local communities are not left behind in the green revolution.

The European Parliament visit marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Bohemian Climate Cooperative. Armed with inspiration, partnerships and actionable ideas, the group is set to expand its reach and impact. Whether through creating sustainable energy initiatives or giving support to local entrepreneurs, BCC’s vision is clear: to make football a force to pursue climate justice.
