Club Brugge Foundation drinking cup initiative at walking soccer tournament
On Thursday, April 20, 2023, the 7th edition of the Club Brugge International Walking Football Tournament was held. During this annual tournament, food and drinks are always offered to the participants. This year, reusable cups were used for the first time to help reduce the climate impact.
The system around the reusable cups obviously needed some explanation as the concept was new for this target group. The teams were informed in advance and upon arrival they received a letter with explanation. At the beverage stand itself, the club worked visually with examples.
The concept was such that a deposit was required for a cup. A cup was thus worth 1 drink voucher (worth 2 euros). When they came to get a new drink, the old cup was exchanged for a new reusable one. At the end of the tournament, they could exchange their last cup for 2 euro cash.
Not only did this relieve the climate by not using disposable cups, but the club foundation was also able to reduce the waste (bottles and cans left behind) that you normally find around the field to zero. Both the tournament and the use of the reusable cups were a great success
