FC Twente introduces its Carbon Footprint Calculator
FC Twente, in collaboration with Copper8, More2Win, Eredivisie CV, Vitesse, and FC Eindhoven, has developed an innovative carbon footprint calculator. This initiative empowers football clubs to assess and address their environmental impact, supporting the broader goal of a more sustainable future thanks to the help of football.
In the 2022-2023 season, FC Twente calculated its carbon footprint at 2,952 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. Key contributors were identified as:
- Food and beverages, accounting for 47% of the emissions.
- Travel by players, staff, and fans to home and away matches, contributing 39%.
FC Twente is not only measuring its climate impact but also identifying areas for meaningful action. Potential measures include introducing sustainable catering options, encouraging public transport and carpooling, and adopting greener travel practices for the club.
This initiative highlights the role of football clubs in driving climate awareness and taking tangible steps toward a greener future. FC Twente’s efforts set a strong example for clubs across the Netherlands and beyond.
